Why does booking money arrive days after the booking?

Travel businesses take payment from guests in one country and pay costs in another. A lodge in Kenya bills a guest in the United Kingdom; an operator in South Africa pays suppliers at home. The booking is instant. The money is not.

International card and bank settlement typically takes days, which is awkward for a business whose costs land before or during the stay rather than after it. Operators either carry the gap themselves or push it onto suppliers.

Cards carry a second cost on top of the delay. Processing on international card bookings commonly runs near 3.5%, which across a season is a real share of margin going to the card networks rather than staying in the business.

How do you split one booking payment across suppliers?

A booking arrives as a single payment from the guest, but it is almost never a single payment out. The operator, the lodge and the shuttle driver each need paying, and your own margin needs separating from the rest of it.

Payment groups handle that split. Send the guest a payment link for the full amount — say €10,000 — and when they pay it, that one payment is divided across the recipients you set up in advance: each supplier paid into their own local account, and your margin kept aside as its own line.
